International School Basel

Model United Nations

a student-run organisation where students can take the role of international policy-makers, representing countries from around the world while debating on globally significant current events.

Why should you join MUN?

A Wide Range of Committees

The conferences held offer a wide range of committees with various topics in different areas. You will be given the opportunity to pick one that suits your interest and capability.

Interesting and Unique Topics

During the conferences, you will be debating on the most contentious global issues at the moment, and it is up to you to help continue the conversation at the conference.

For All Levels

Besides the varied topics, the conferences are for students at any level ranging from beginner to the most advanced.

Opportunity to Meet New People

There will be hundreds of students joining conferences and the club. With a large number of attendees, you will surely meet lots of new faces.

Research and Public Speaking Skills

Through participating in a MUN conference, you will develop your research skills by seeking out trustworthy sources and citing them when you speak in front of a roomful of people.

Develop an interest in the World

As international students, we bring diverse opinions and perspectives to conferences. Through the debates, you will be able to develop a strong interest in different cultures, politics, and geography.

Build Up Confidence

We all know how hard it is to stand in front of everybody and just talk but keep in mind that we are all learning through this process. If you mess up, nobody is going to notice because they are busy thinking about their own mistakes!

Formal Language

The conferences are an excellent place for you to perfect your language use in a formal setting. This is great preparation for your future in the workplace or in even larger conferences.

Uni Application & CV

The skills that you’ve developed through joining MUN will be invaluable, and you can get credit for your hard work by including it on your resume. This experience can also be your example to support your personal strengths during uni interviews.

CAS

For those of you who are doing IBDP, this is a perfect opportunity for you to log another CAS experience. What’s more, not only is joining the club an experience, but you can add an additional experience for participating in conferences such as BAMUN.
