After interviewing the Environmental Council chairs and admins, their roles and responsibilities in the different departments of MUN and how they work together to make the debate function smoothly. The chairs were asked and answered questions about their duties as council chairs, how they gained their role, the successes and challenges they faced during the planning and preparation process leading up to MUNTAG, and how they try to get all delegates involved.
The chairs answered the following questions by saying they are responsible for leading the debate and encouraging communication, skills gained through their extensive MUN experience. Certainly, the chairs faced some challenges. Namely, writing committee papers due to the expectation of substantial knowledge on the topic, encouraging communication within the council, and deciding which delegates might win an award. To make the conference more interesting, chairs encourage communication by having a chair act as another country so they can get involved and add more controversial points to the debate and make it more interesting.
In an additional interview with an admin member, questions about their role and responsibility, challenges and successes of the preparation, and where they wish to see themselves in the future in MUN were asked. It was answered that their role is to help the steady movement of the whole council help the resolutions go up and help set up for the MUNTAG conference. As they are newer to MUN they learned about each role and decided which would fit them best and interested them the most.
