The Yemen Crisis

The crisis occurring in Yemen threatens to be one of the world’s most pressuring humanitarian emergencies, with millions of civilians suffering from devastating consequences of conflict, famine, and destruction of infrastructure. Citizens of Yemen’s lives were changed forever, families were separated, homes were destroyed businesses were lost, and their culture was destroyed. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, over 20 million Yemenis require humanitarian assistance, with more than 16 million lacking access to sustainable health care. Children, families, and elderlies suffer from the conflict that arose in early 2014, resulting which has resulted in the displacement of over 4 million families, and has left an estimated 80% of the population reliant on humanitarian aid. Moreover, famine has overtaken the remaining population in Yemen. The country is also facing severe food insecurity, with the UN estimating that over 16 million people are malnourished and food insecure, including 5 million who are on the brink of famine. Access to clean water and sanitation is also a critical issue, with nearly 20 million citizens of Yemenis lacking access to safe water and sanitation facilities. Nevertheless, achieving lasting peace and stability in Yemen remains a complex challenge that requires sustained diplomatic engagement and commitment from all parties involved.
